I have 2 what I assume are 1098 engines. The number plate on the heads start with 10cc. Do folks still run these engines in SCCA and or Vintage racing.

I still run the 1098 engine but they are kind of rare in SCCA. I don't know about Vintage.

Well you have a excellent taste for car numbers. I suppose what I’m trying to figure out is do these have any value? I am moving so just trying to figure out what to do with them?

The guys that run the 1098 competitively look for the motors with the 2 inch mains. The early ones had 1 3/4 inch mains IIRC. I had a couple of blocks with the smaller mains and just sent them to the scrapyard as no one was interested in them. I believe that the formula junior guys in vintage can run the 1098 but I am not sure.

In northern Ca. if you have a bugeye in vintage you have to have a tappet cover block. (non 1275). The 2 inch main motors are the most desirable units. Some of the guys use a 1275 crank in those motors. I crewed for a couple of guys with that setup and 1 1/2 SU carbs and ported heads. they were pretty quick.

10CG = 1.75" Mains
10CC = 2.00" Mains
For the Spridgets
10M's are the Minor 1098's and most of what I've seen were the small main variety.

Give a call to Mike Havlick. He races the 1098's in both SCCA and Vintage.

Thanks Mike, I think both of these are 10cc

The 1275 is more prevelent in vintage racing. Appears to have more off the shelf performance parts as well. I would defer to Ron B and his earlier post as well as Jason Stine and Rick Haynes.

Give them to Mike Havlick. Then, Betsy will yell at him for collecting more clutter. I gave him and Mike Miller a truck load of stuff. She only looked at me and shook her head. He deserves it.
